Like all communities, we developed our own set of abbreviations, acronyms and pseudo-blends. Most of those are related with war, but we have some for workers, economics, countries, etc.

Just so we are clear:

  • acronyms = an abbreviation pronounced as a series of constituent letters;
  • initialisms = an abbreviation pronounced wholly or partly using the names of its constituent letters;
  • pseudo-blends = an abbreviation whose extra or omitted letters means that it cannot stand as a true acronym, initialism, or portmanteau (a word formed by combining two or more words);
  • abbreviation = shortened form of a word or phrase.
